POLETJE

Not so long ago the summer also for me was a time for resting, but in recent seasons, there is more and more work. Mature trees need a lot of constant work over the summer: pruning, wiring, pinching ... And because there are more and more "finished" bonsai in my collection, there is also more and more work to do!

HITROST

Last time, at the SBK forum, it was opinion that some of us work too fast on the yamadoris. That the steps proceeds too quickly. My opinion is a little different - yamadoris must be prepared for styling. They deserve at least three years of careful preparation. I prefer more. But when the tree is ready, strong and firmly rooted, you can work on it relatively often and the result can be reached quickly. Then, of course, years of maturation and work on the details follows before the tree is ready for the show. But basically I am surprised that the guys who have collected a lot of excellent material, don't work on this material or there is no results yet. I was expecting that the Slovenian yamadoris will be on the exhibitions more and more, but for now is not so. Obviously we must still wait :-) On the other hand, it is now even more crystal clear how valuable is excellent material and how difficult it is to get from material to the bonsai which is ready for the exhibition.

Below is an example of Scots pine, which was collected by Miha, then the tree found it's way in to my garden. Even then, it was well-rooted, and I prepared it for another growing season. The first picture is from January 2012, the second is today, after work on jins and selection of buds. A year and a half. Of course, the tree is not yet ready for exhibition, but the trend is clear.

Leto in pol.

Not exactly a good example, because it is a relatively not promissing material, but I'm starting to like it more and more. If there was initially intended to exchange or sell, it is now almost clear that it will remain in my collection ...

NADALJEVANJE

Damjan has returned to the atelier with juniper and did some minor adjustments. Extended shari on the trunk and cut a few branches.

Then we proceeded with ficus. In almost two years it is completely lost it's form, but unfortunately Damjan brought it to the workshop a month or two too late for defoliation. For security reasons, we decided to only do a rough pruning and wiring, next spring, at the end of May we'll defoliate it and fine wire it, then you can really focus on each branch.

PS: In September we'll started with a new year of TORA school. Anyone who would like to join the groups in Ljubljana, Maribor or Nova Gorica must first complete a course for beginners. Please book your date as son as possible! TORA school also announces the dates for individual advanced courses. Applications and additional information on tora.bonsai @ gmail.com or call +38641 241224 . WELCOME!

DAMIJAN

Damjan began to work on this juniper in March 2010. At that time, I had some similar stock material and we started a new project.

After second styling, November 2011

After more than a year Damjan returned to the studio with juniper, ready for a new step. Juniper slowly gaining maturity, primary branches retained shape. We wired the new growth, and did a quick styling. We run out of time, so we couldn't do more. We'll continue next week: Shari, detailed styling of the crown ...

After wiring, still some work to do ...
