DIPLOMANT

Sometimes there is a tree in the garden, which will not get awards. But it is a challenge, how to take the best out of it. I am dealing with this juniper for quite some time. Nebari and the lower part is OK, but then there is a long, fat branch with green mass far away. Last year I split the branch and because juniper didn't complain about it, I continued with the work. First faze is now completed, the silhouette is now visible. In the background there is still a back-up branch, also the wooden wedges which help me to curve the trunk, will remain on the tree for some time. Now searching for the right pot is on.

This will be unusual, dramatic tree. Maybe someone will like it ;-)

To bo nenavadno, dramatično drevo. Mogoče pa bo komu le všeč ;-)

I finished my work on the tree at weekly workshop of Tora group. The main subject of yesterday workshop was analysis of Rajko's juniper. We talked about every option and comment how and why. And we learned something new again!

P.S.: Matej, congratulations to the degrees

P.S.: Matej, čestitke za diplomo!

ČETRTEK

Autumn silently came to the garden, morning mist from the fog, trees are slowly preparing themselves for the winter ...

Weekly workshop of Tora group will be in Thursday! See you!

Redna tedenska delavnica skupine Tora bo tokrat v četrtek! Se vidimo!

IZTOK

Iztok is nice old-Slovenian name; we arrange our workshop for quite some time, today Iztok came to the atelier from Prekmurje together with his little family. He is a fresh father! Iztok has some experience with bonsai because his uncle has some trees for a long time. Now, with new knowledge, they'll progress even easier!

P.S.: Matej prepared some nice Larix material for workshops, which are now available. If someone wish to learn on this nice species and want to go home with nice tree is now invited. There are still some free dates!

PROJEKT

Another week and we met again in Tora atelier. Tomaž did some working hours on junipers left from NTC. He cut off all the wire. Three junipers are still available. Roland worked on dead-wood on his juniper, Marija did some work on her little double-trunk juniper.

I started a new project with one of the NTC junipers. I saved it from all clumsily done wire, broken branches are healing. There are missing some important branches; the NTC candidate cut them off. But anyway, I feel this tree as a great challenge. We'll see in next three years ...

Bomo videli v naslednjih treh letih ...

JAPONC

Weekly sessions of Tora group are back; the star of this week session was Matej. He returned from one month apprenticeship program in Japan. In next months he'll pass a new knowledge to the other members of the group and the level of knowledge will increase again. First informations were very interesting ...

Redna tedenska srečanja skupine Tora gredo s polno paro naprej.

Matej closely monitoring the work on pine

Jože continued with his program in Tora school, he started his first project - of course on Chamaecyparis! There is a lot of work to do, but he has a lot of good spirit!

Jože started with new project

If you want to join in, you are very welcome!

Če se želite pridružiti šoli, ste seveda dobrodošli!

BELGIJC

I started to work on this juniper in autumn 2009. It is an urban yamadori, It found it's way in to my garden a year before trough Rajko. In 2009 It was shaped for the first time, in spring 2011 potted in to first bonsai-pot and re-wired, after this summer when it got a right doze of sun, water and food it was re-wired again and formed in details.

2009 - starting material

I needed only one day to cut off all the wire, but to wired it again it was a completely different story. Because the structure of the crown was still in developing process, the thinning of the wild growth was needed. I did the selection of secondary branches and cut off some ugly big ones too. Then I concentrated on detailed wiring. The basic branches hold their position and didn't needed a new wire, but all the rest was wired again. All together more then 15 hours of work (in real: the whole week, for a few hours per day). More or less pure enjoyment! Now the structure of the crown is more or less finished, it just need to mature. The position in the pot is still to high but I'll correct that at next re-potting.

Pozicija v posodi je še nekoliko previsoka, to bom popravil ob naslednjem presajanju.

It was growing so fast this summer that even bark cracked

The crown need to mature

2012 - before wiring

2012 - after a week of detailed wiring

Now the juniper will be prepared for the winter, next year I'll concentrated on pinching and maintenance. Maintenance is as important for developing a good tree as shaping is. At least so.
